The Enduring 8

Salutations Good People,

We have now reached the time in the Tournament where we have whittled down from the original 64 to the Enduring 8 below.  Also, in typical Tournament tradition, most of said Enduring 8 neglected to play and so this should be pretty quick.... 

Up Right Regional Championship: 

4) Hookah John Herboth vs. 7) Aneel Arya

Question 1: For John In the TV show ‘Frasier’, when Frasier violates his code of ethics, his stomach gets upset – what is the physical reaction that occurs when Niles violates his code of ethics?

John: Niles' nose bleeds.  (Correct)  John goes up 1-0

Question 2: For John

In 'Con-Air', Cameron Poe (Nic Cage) states that there are only two men that he trusts, one being himself and the other "is not you" -- who was he talking to?

John: Cameron Poe trusts only 2 people himself and Baby-O.  (Incorrect) While it is possible that those are the two men that he trusts, that doesn't answer the question of who he was talking to.  And so, the question goes to Aneel.

Aneel: John/Joan Cusack (Correct) The character of Vince Larkin played by John Cusack; I imagine he was making a joke about the sibling pair. It wasn't funny, but, hey, all of the funny Canadians leave Canada.  Regardless, Aneel wins that question and ties it up 1-1

In ‘Archer’, how does Sterling Archer describe Babou’s room?

Aneel: "It's like Meow-schwitz in there." (Correct)  Aneel takes the question and a 2-1 lead, needing one more point to advance to the Famed Four.

According to Netflix: When the President’s friend is murdered, CIA Deputy Director becomes unwittingly involved in an illegal war against a Colombian drug cartel. Name the movie.

Aneel: "Clear and Present Danger" JACK RYAN!!!!! (Correct) And, there you have it: Aneel, pulls off the upset winning the best-of-five trivia round by a score of 3-1.  Onto the Famed Four on Wednesday night.

2) Andy Gorder vs. 9) Mike Walsh

Question 1: For Gorder In the TV show ‘Frasier’, when Frasier violates his code of ethics, his stomach gets upset – what is the physical reaction that occurs when Niles violates his code of ethics?

Gorder: When Niles violates his code of ethics, his nose bleeds. (Correct) Andy Gorder takes a 1-0 lead

In 'Con-Air', Cameron Poe (Nic Cage) states that there are only two men that he trusts, one being himself and the other "is not you" -- who was he talking to?

Gorder:  He says it to Larkin.  (Correct) Vince Larkin, played by John Cusack; either would have been acceptable. Gorder goes up 2-0

In ‘Archer’, how does Sterling Archer describe Babou’s room?

Mike: No response.  So the question goes to Gorder.

Gorder: “It’s like Meow-schwitz in there.” (Correct)  And, with that, Gorder gets the 3 scores needed to advance to the Famed Four on Wednesday night.  Final: Gorder wins 3-0.

2) Kristen Dutra vs. 8) Meredith Jaeger

Question 1: For Kristen In the TV show ‘Frasier’, when Frasier violates his code of ethics, his stomach gets upset – what is the physical reaction that occurs when Niles violates his code of ethics?

Kristen: No response.  So the question goes to Meredith -- who stopped doing her take-home midterm in order to submit responses, and requested that this be noted...
Meredith: Nosebleeds (I've never seen an episode of Frasier).  (Correct) Although, very sad that she's never watched "Frasier" -- one of the great sitcoms, for sure.  Anyhoo, she takes a 1-0 lead.

Kristen: No response.  So the question goes to Meredith -- who stopped doing her take-home midterm in order to submit responses, and requested that this be noted...
Meredith: Larkin (also never seen it).  (Correct) Vince Larkin/John Cusack being the correct answer...while Meredith goes up 2-0 in the game, she is disappointing me with each response of unfamiliarity with greatness.  Regardless, she needs just one more point to advance to the Famed Four on Wednesday night...

Meredith: Meow-schwitz (I've seen maybe 2 episodes).  (Correct)  Hey, at least she's seen two episodes of "Archer" -- which is better than none.  Still not very good, but better than nothing.  Also, good enough for the necessary 3 points to win the trivia by a score of 3-0 and advance to the Famed Four on Wednesday night.

I didn't get responses back from Roo Davis and, well, I did get responses back from Calley...but...well, you'll see in a moment........

Roo: No response.  So the question goes to Calley...

Calley: He gets turned on.  (Incorrect)....no...the correct answer being, of course, his nose bleeds.  No one wins that question, 0-0 still.

Calley: Dick Cheney.  (Incorrect)....Whaaaa?....that doesn't even make sense.  No one wins that question, 0-0 still.

Calley: As having more cardboard than a homeless man's camp.  (Incorrect)...so the question goes to Roo.
Roo: No response.    Once again, no one wins that question, either, 0-0 still.

Roo: No response.  So the question goes to Calley... 
Calley: "Aladdin".  (Incorrect)....I don't understand this....at all.  What version of "Aladdin" did you grow up watching, Calley? 

And we reach our first tie-breaker of the 2013 Tournament...and the first ever tie-breaker for a 0-0 tie....soak that in for a moment, people; that is history in the making, right there.

Tie-Breaker:

What is my biggest pet peeve?

Calley: People who submit ridiculous answers for competitions.  Actually, I wouldn't consider this a pet peeve of mine...so you even got that incorrect (haha)... however, someone has to win and since you put forward the effort to respond....sort of....Calley will take the first ever win without scoring.  Impressive....and sad....all at the same time.

And so, there you have it: the Famed Four of the 2013 May Mayhem Tournament of Champions have been identified and move a mere two wins away from being crowned the 2013 Champion of Champions!!
