RECAP: The MGD 64 / Opening Round : Results & Notes

For those of you who missed out on the opening round of the 2014 May Mayhem Tournament of Champions, below is a recap of last week's action; broken down by each day's match-ups, with the winner in bold.

Day 1:  For the most part, everyone who was "supposed" to win, did.  Two upsets on this day, but the biggest, by far, was 13) Andrew Salzman eliminating 4) Nate Sheets.  11) Ken over 6) Gammy wasn't too surprising.

Day 2: It was a good day to be the higher seeds in Day 2, as the higher seeds went 7-1.  Upon further review, I never did announce who advanced between 7) Agosta and 10) Matt Knister, but Agosta ended up taking it.  My bad on missing that detail, and shout-out to Maui for catching it.

Day 3:    After taking Wednesday off from action, the "underdogs" battled back in Day 3, splitting the matches 4-4.  The most notable upset, I'd say, was 15) Sam Hendrick taking out 2) Great One Ian Mouser.

Day 4: The "favorites" reclaimed their dominance (6-2) on the day, but the biggest story of the day -- and the Tournament thus far -- was 16) Stephen Cannon eliminating the top-seeded, and defending Champion of Champions, 1) Andy Gorder.  It's a sort of announcement to all that this Tournament may get wild; no one is safe.
